Reviews

It's a tough job, making it to the Comic Book Store, buying my books, and staggering home to make some tea and then read them...but I do it FOR YOU!  And, I do have to admit that the end of the month is always a plethora of good books.

Aquaman #39

Well, Atlanna has certainly aged well.  Arthur and Mera have managed to follow her to her hidden realm and are merely interested in a mother/son reunion, but she's a bit hard to talk to, since her first reaction is try and kill them.  She also doesn't think that Arthur is even supposed to be alive and then tries to sacrifice the two of them to a volcano God.

She's not getting a card for Mother's day, I can tell you that!

I assume that there is a reason for her paranoia, and we get a bit of it, but still...!

Pretty art, and an interesting story.

Batman #39

And the Joker continues to do this thing.  Is he just a man, or a monster, or something mythical?  We don't know, and his victims certainly don't know, and Bruce is reduced to trying to reason with the Court of Owls, and then gets some of his villains to actually help him out, by wearing masks and beating up people.  A good time had by all!

Too bad about Alfred.  Yeesh!

Man, this is scary and exciting, and brutal, and really good.

Batman '66 #20

And speaking of good...we have the Joker as Jokerman, and pretending to be a hero, but of course he's not. We also get Bruce and Dick shirtless, which is nice.  The the mysterious Pillager shows up, and oh, the shenanigans!

God, I do love shenanigans!  And I love this book so very very much.

Gotham Academy #5

Well, things certainly do happen in this issue!  They find a lizard man in the tunnels, which may or may not be Croc, they go to the dance, they find more tunnels, Olive goes out with Kyle and finds that Tristan has Langstrom virus, and that he had saved her earlier, although she doesn't remember it, and oh...Batman shows up.

Man, this is good.  And fun.

Red Lanterns #39

Oh...Guy!

Sinestro #10

It really does look as though Mongul has Sinestro over a barrel this time, having depleated the energy in his ring, and hanging him up like a slab of meat, and killing off his army and such.  But it is never ever wise to count out Sinestro, although things don't look particularly good for him at the moment.

It is such a strange thing to be rooting for a villain, but part of the appeal of Sinestro, is that he has never ever considered himself to be a villain, which makes him a very interesting character indeed.  And it is nice to see more of Soranik.

Daredevil #13

Matt has confessed to being in love with Kirsten and in typical Matt fashion is now trying to sabotage himself, because he can't handle the terror of being happy/or worrying about what might happen to her.  When she gets kidnapped, he's all set to go after her, and punish whomever tried to hurt him through her.  Imagine his surprise, when her kidnapper was actually HER villain, not his!

She's quite excited about it, which I found to be hilarious.  Matt seriously is at a loss, not knowing exactly what to do or how to handle this, although Foggy gives him a good talking to.  Also the Shroud shows up to help... or does he?

Fabulous.  As usual.

Thor Annual #l

Once again we have three ages of Thor.  Old King Thor, managed to bring life back to Midgard eons in the future, but is still having trouble getting things to work in his new garden.  All the trolls and elves and giants are gone, and he's feeling old and a little crabby.

Also his birthday is coming up, and his three grand-daughters decide to get him a present, and with a little bit of this and a little bit of that, they make...Animals for Midgard!  Yes, the zebras have wings and the elephants have a few more tusks than normal, but hey, they are in there trying, and he's just overwhelmed and happy.  There happens to be a little bit of the clay left over, so he makes a couple of humans, and calls them Jane and Steve.  And has a wonderful birthday after all.

Then we are in present day, with the new Thor, and Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg decide to take her out and run her through her paces, to see if she can match up with some of the deeds of Thor in the past.  Bar fights,  dragons, Elf-Queens, and more, and naturally, although she does do some things differently, a wonderful time is had by all.

I give Fandral only a short time before he starts hitting on her.  That should be interesting.

Finally, we have young Thor. In a drinking contest.  Mephisto shows up, and Loki does his thing. The art is adorable, and the story is even more so, and frankly I could read a book of just this, all day long, because it is a hoot and a half.

Seriously, get this book just for the third story, you won't be sorry!

Not a bad week at all!  I was a bit rushed in my descriptions, because I still really don't feel very good, but maybe I'll curl up with more tea and read them all over again.  And so should everyone.

Blurggh

Can't post.  Busy dying.

Well, that's a bit of hyperbole... but not by much. I don't know what it is about February, but I always seem to get sick. I will spare you the disgusting details.

Blah.

Super Hero Night!

So, my youngest who works at the local Chili's Restaurant, managed to get them to host a "Super Hero Night".  They do this sort of thing once a month, with different themes, and it's all fun and a little silly, but people seem to like it.  She drew some cute little masks, and they gave them to the kids with crayons to color.  She also wore her Supergirl costume, because who doesn't have a Supergirl costume in their closet?

She also lent her Superman footed pajamas to her Manager, and he wore it with complete aplomb.  She lent her Wonder Woman cape to another Manager, and a good time was had by all.  We had to come of course, and naturally I wore my Green Lantern T-shirt over a black turtleneck.  My son wore his Sinestro Corps shirt, and my husband wore my Red Lantern sweatshirt/hoodie.  There was a waiter dressed as Spider-Man, another waitress with a Wonder Woman tiara and a couple of Batmans.

Everyone had so much fun, that they might make this a "thing", and do it again!

Thursday's Reviews

Well, this was a rather nice week!  We also got a wee bit above freezing, which considering how it has been lately, is amazing.  Right back into the deep freeze today however. I suppose that sometime in August we will look back upon this with a modicum of fondness, but not today.

Batgirl #39

I do like this book.

For some reason, Batgirl has plummeted from internet sensation to persona non grata and she's quite confused about how she attained this lowly state.  Even her allies are looking at her sideways.  She is also having some memory blanks, and can't account for things. Fortunately, she does manage to make amends with Dinah, and together they go looking for clues.

It turns out that there may be a bounty on her head, as she discovers when she springs into action to save a woman from some muggers, and it turns out to be a setup.  So she and Dinah break into Hooq, both to rescue her roomie, and to find out what the hell is going on. And they find that her algorithm and graduate project has...come to life?

Stay tuned Bat-Fans!

Batman and Robin #39

Robin is still adjusting to life again, and being an ll-year old boy with super powers.  What could possibly go wrong?  He's scaring the crap out of the villains in Gotham, I can tell you that!  Batman of course disapproves, and keeps trying to get him to calm down and rein it in, harping that he shouldn't rely only on his super powers, which can be a crutch, but on his superior Bat-Training.  And considering the sorts of things that Bruce can do, I suppose he has a point.

Alfred cons the two of them into going fishing, and talking about what happened.  As far as they can figure the Apokoliptan Chaos Sliver is responsible for everything, and quite frankly, that is such a Comic Booky sort of excuse, that I am simply delighted.  Then Bruce gets a call from the Justice League, and lets sonny tag along to the Satellite of Love.

Damian is doing a very good job of pretending to NOT be impressed.  He's a bit rude to Superman...of course, but seems to be hitting it off with Captain Mar...er...Shazaam.  At least for Damian anyway.  Which makes sense, because they do have a fair amount in common.  And then they all get to fly off and fight monsters!

Gosh, this was a fun issue.  I really appreciate that.

Fables #149

We learn more about the history of Snow White and Rose Red, apparently they come from a long line of witches or something, and they only have daughters, and it is the tradition of the various daughters to kill each other off, in order to inherit all the power.  Yeesh!  Their mother tried to dodge the curse, but ended up winning anyway, and then swore that she wouldn't have kids in order to break the chain, and then wound up falling for a handsome prince, then said no sex, but did it anyway, and then said no kids, and got pregnant, and then said only one kid, and ended up having twins.

Dagnabit!

So...Rose now knows that her destiny is to try and kill her sister. Snow White doesn't know anything about this of course, but I guess it does explain why they never got along.  Rose doesn't seem much worried about the ethics of all of this, and plans to use the stolen ring that controls Bigby, to get him in and kill Snow for her, and then She Will Rule The World!  Bwhahahahahahahaha!

This is really not the happy ending I had been hoping for.

Oh, and Sleeping Beauty's curse has finally caught up with her, and the car that was a witch is due to turn back into a witch after one final ride.  Aurora comes up with a rather brilliant way to work around this, by flying out into Space to the edge of the Universe.  The car can't turn into a witch till they reach the end, and there IS no end, and Aurora is turning into a zombie or something, so she goes to sleep. Game, Set and Match.

I really hope this book doesn't end with a mess.  I still love Fairy Tales!

Harley  Quinn Valentine's Day Special

I missed this last week, but heard some decent things about it, and decided to pick it up.  It is silly beyond belief..but also fun.  So much fun.  Bruce Wayne is being auctioned off to the highest bidder for a date to raise money for an animal shelter, and naturally Harley wants to win.  So she and her cohorts rob a Wall Street Banker/crook and steal all his money, and use that to win the bid.

There is also a pair of costumed lunatics who want the money to make a fish preserve.  And all the action is mostly in the form of Harley and Bruce being doped up or simply asleep and dreaming, and it is a hoot.  It even has a more or less happy ending!

Good silly fun.

Justice League #39

Well, Superman, Lex and Wonder Woman are the only ones left who haven't succumbed to the Amazo virus, and things aren't good. Lex wants to make a vaccine from Superman's blood, who is justifiably skeptical about Lex's motives.  Also, Captain Cold shows up and starts flirting madly with Diana...and who can blame him?

It turns out that he's the key, his cold gun actually slows the possessed people down, and Superman realizes he can use his freeze ray, and they manage to subdue everyone long enough to make the vaccine.  Except for the original poor guy, who is still alive, but only his body which has been taken over by Amazo who vows revenge.  Also Leonard decides to take some pictures of him freezing the Flash. You just know those were all over Facebook in a matter of minutes.

Not a bad story, not a bad issue.  And guess who shows up at the very end?

Oh Hal.

Sensation Comics/Wonder Woman #7

I do enjoy the heck out of this book.

Diana shows up on a Space mission to Venus, which seems appropriate.  The head of the mission is a bit miffed, he wanted Superman, and is a bit of a sexist pig.  There is only one other woman on the flight, but she's nice. They naturally have some problems along the way, and a Venusian monster shows up and starts eating their craft, and picking them off one by one.

It doesn't look good, until Diana realizes that the monsters are actually the CREW, and they are perfectly happy to be turned into Venusian monsters, in fact the head of the station volunteers!  It ends more or less happily...I guess, and Diana and the one other girl decide to go home, and find their mother box.

The second story is about a new recruit who ends up in Afghanistan, more or less as a photo-op, and visits a woman's school, and their unit ends up being shelled on the way back.  She has a little mascot, a mini-pendant of Wonder Woman that she wears around her neck.  Somehow, even though they are pinned down, she musters the strength to drag her new buddies to safety, and lo and behold, Diana shows up to help!  Except nobody but the lieutenant even saw her.  It's nice too.

Loki: Agent of Asgard #11

Oh Loki is in deep doodoo now.  He can't lie anymore and has blurted out the truth about what happened to cute little boy Loki, and Thor is justifiably outraged and heartbroken, and beat him up and dumped him in Asgard.  The rest of the Asgardians are also horrified, and apparently perform a mass shunning, while Loki breaks down and snivels a bit.  Except for Sif, who having had her body occupied by Loki for quite some time, is a bit puzzled by this younger Loki.

Loki then goes to see the All Mother who yells at him some more.  At this point, Loki has had enough and gives her a few home truths, that she doesn't care for at all.  He tells her she was played by evil old Loki, which makes her made and she banishes him.  Then stomps down to the dungeon and finds out that Loki was telling the truth...Old Loki is gone and made a major chump out of her.  She is not...pleased.

Loki ends up in a space between the ten realms, and plods through the snow for a while, before finding Odin, who is oddly...kind.  He acknowledges he knows what is going on, but that Loki is still his son, and he...loves him.  But still, Loki has blood on his hands, and he must atone for it with fire, and gives him some rather cryptic advice about knowing what a lie is.  And then he sends him back to earth.

He lands...on fire...in his apartment to the relief of Verity.  Then evil OLD Loki shows up and oh, things just get worse.  She stomps out in a huff, and evil Loki  just is having a ball being...evil and rubbing it in. There is even a rather interesting bondage moment at the end.

I love this book.

Ms. Marvel #12

I somehow missed number ll, but hope to find it eventually, since I figure that Kamala wins.  This issue is the Valentine's day issue, and has Loki in it!  Before he gets booted out of Asgard anyway,  Odin and Freyja send him to earth to make sure that the Inventor doesn't still have agents lurking.  Loki is covered in horse manure, after "borrowing" the horses of Sol to melt down a few Frost Giants.  He didn't have to do it this way, but wanted to try something different.  That's one of the reasons I like Loki.

Meanwhile...Bruno is trying to summon up the courage to ask Kamala to a school dance, when Loki waltzes in.  They all think he's a preppie dressing up like a Viking...or from Brooklyn.  After meeting Kamala, he cons Bruno into writing her a torrid love letter from an anonymous admirer. It works after a fashion, and she and Nakia do end up going to the dance...where they spot Loki spiking the punch with truth serum.

Naturally having horny teenagers drink truth serum gets quite amusing and terrifying very quickly, so Kamala changes into Ms. Marvel and starts beating up Loki, who is actually enjoyinng himself, but ends up getting doused with his own truth serum.

But everything ends happily with explanations, and Loki does put a magical ward on the school so it won't be invaded or destroyed anymore, which is a good thing. Also Bruno didn't have any punch which is probably also a good thing.

Adorable.  As usual.

She-Hulk #12

This is the last issue, and I am heartbroken.  This has been one of my favorite books.

So..the person behind the Blue File is...Nightwatch!

I blush to admit that I don't even know who Nightwatch even is. But he had cooked up plan way back using Dr. Druid, the Shocker and Vibro to make a spell, that enables him to become...a Good Guy, and erase the memories of everyone that thought he was a bad guy. He is smart enough to realize that the Heroes end up with endorsements and a great future, while the Bad Guys...don't.

But he's still really evil, since he has killed off anyone who remembered, or got their hands on the last tiny piece of paper. Jen is pissed of course, and calls in some friends, and there is a nice fight, but he's still able to control people and do magical things,  and...stuff.  Then the Shocker shows up and is pissed because he doesn't  think its fair that he couldn't go straight too and oh, it is on.

Jenny wins of course.  She goes back to her practice, and re-hires Angie and Hei Hei, and Howard the Duck wanders in for a cameo, looking to rent a space in her building.  She also gets a chance to sue her old firm.  And there is a happy ending.

Well, except that we can't read this book anymore. I will miss it so much.

Gosh, what a brilliant week!

In A While, Kyle

I have actually, and truly given up on Green Lantern: New Guardians.  It stars Kyle Raynor, whom I adore, and has Carol Ferris, whom I like, and a host of other various people.  It is absolutely...not very good.  And it pains me considerably to write that.

For one thing, although Kyle is ostensibly the star of the book, it is as though he is barely present.  Nothing is presented from his personal point of view, we no longer get his thoughts, or insight into his character.  He just reacts to whatever happens to be happening.  Heck, Carol gets as much of the attention as Kyle does, and sometimes more.  This just doesn't appeal to me much.

Now that he is the White Lantern, he just seems to be a symbol, his "Kyle-ness" is missing.  He's actually rather passive, and if there is anything that Kyle is not...it is passive.  He meekly goes along with most of what the new New Guardians tell him to do.  He hooks up with Carol, mainly because she is there...although I have to admit that the same is basically true for Carol as well.  Although with Carol, I think that there is a bit of a "screw-you" attitude towards Hal...and seriously, who can blame her.

The new New Guardians told everyone that Kyle was dead, which wiped out his support group and friends, and although they now know that he is alive, he still isn't being surrounded by other Lanterns, and that is a shame, because I think that Kyle works well with others...unlike say, Hal or Guy...or even John, who has been fairly surly lately.

I don't know what is going to happen after Convergence, but I do believe that the number of Green Lantern books is going to go down, with just two, and the Sinestro book, which, to be frank, also surprises me.  Sinestro?  Really?  So, will Kyle end up back hanging out with Guy again, or is more turmoil in store?  Probably turmoil.  But as a Green Lantern fan, I am just sad that I don't really like a Green Lantern book.

Cold!

So very very cold.  We didn't get as much snow as the shore, or poor Boston, but we got more than we needed or wanted. And now there is something of a gale blowing, so going out and trying to shovel is completely pointless.

I am really sick of winter.

I am going to try and stay warm and read comics and draw pictures and put up new curtains in my new kitchen and drink hot chocolate. I hope you can all do the same!

Thursday's Reviews

Not quite as fabulous a week as last week.  But what can you do?  Comics are still my Drug of choice, and I don't imagine I'm going to be weaned off of them any time soon.

Green Lantern Corps #39

John and his bunch are still on Feska's planet trying to figure out just what the heck is going on, with the monsters, and mind control and so on and so forth.  Jruk is showing his softer side, which is sweet.  Von Daggle actually DOES find his old partner and flame, which is a plot point that goes back to Green Lantern Corp #7 or so, so it has been simmering away for quite some time!  Turns out she's been under deep deep cover helping the Shadow Empire, which since the old Guardians are now dead, is pretty crappy for her.  Not sure what the old Guardians were up to, since they went bonkers, but she's got to be feeling a bit...used.

I'm not really feeling all that interested, although it is always nice to see the characters, but I can't help but think that they had better finish it up soon, since it is all going to be swept away in a month or two anyway.

Fables: The Wolf Among Us

It is always nice to go back in time and see Bigby and Colin and Snow and the gang back before all the...unpleasantness.  Ichabod Crane is running the place, as King Cole is on vacation or something, and he's a real jerk about it.

Bigby and Snow uncover some more information on the dead young lady whose head had been so unceremoniously been placed at the office. Turns out her name was Faith, and she was a princess, and boy howdy does SHE have a horrific back story!  Nice to see Buffkin too.

Pretty darned good.

Justice League United #9

Well, time is running out, and things are going to hell in a handbasket, as Brainiac blusters, the Legion is starting to panic, and J'onn saves the day!  Natually.  He gets Hawkman to actually remember who he is, and he's not very happy with Byth.  Ultra has been turned into the monster from the future, and at the last minute, before Brainiac can send the bomb he's been working on, J'onn manages to go into his head and wipe him or something, and everything is saved!

Except that Brainiac already sent the bomb, and now there is a Black Hole.  It's always something with teenagers from the future!

I'm still having fun with this book.  More so than the Justice League, to be honest.

Justice League 3000 #14

I started getting this book a couple of months ago because of Booster and Beetle, and last month Ice showed up.  But...this version of Ice is sure depressing.  Giffen and DeMatteis are going off of the continuity of the old mini-series, where the Justice Buddies go to Hell, and find Tora, and Bea looks back, and she and Guy cry, and you know.  It turns out that Bea WAS supposed to be the one, and she volunteers to go back and free Tora, who is horrified, and tries to rescue Bea, and it turns out that Bea ends up having a pretty good deal being Etrigan's girlfriend...or something.

Tora is all cranky and spooky now.  It's just...weird.

Secret Six #2

I was so happy when I heard this book was coming back, but it sure hasn't been what I thought it was going to be.  Catman and some other people are being held under the sea in a giant coffin-shaped box, and the story jumps back and forth between the past and the present, and to be perfectly honest, the artwork makes it all so...muddled, that half the time I can't even figure out what is going on.

They make it out?  I guess?  I think?  I don't really care?

Thor #5

Geez, but Odin is a jerk. Freya is snarky.  The Serpent, Odin's brother is "rehabilitated" and is appointed chief justice and promptly starts torturing people.  All theAsgardians are very very nervous about how things are going, and probably wish that the All-Mother was back.

Odin is very cranky about the new Thor, and really really cranky, that all of his mystic tools aren't doing a very good job in revealing her identity. Thor tells him to back off, Freya tells him to back off, and he's just being a dick about it.

Thor goes off to talk to Sif, and it doesn't go particularly well, since she's pissed he dumped her, and he's wondering if she's the one with his hammer, and he gets drunk, and cries about Mjollnir.  But hey, the Absorbing Man and Titania show up and it is rather a hoot.  I wasn't really sure about all of this, and I'd still prefer for poor Thor to get his Hammer and his Name back, but it has been well written, and it does have my attention, and dang it...it's good!

So...an interesting week anyway.

Gadzooks!

The temperature is actually 34 degrees here in lovely snow-covered New England.  We're having a heat wave!

My Kitchen is finally finished!  Mostly.  A few small touches here and there, and they are still working on the butler's pantry, and converting the old kitchen into the new family room.  But it is usable, the appliances have been installed, along with the island and the cabinets and the counters, and the totally frivolous Victorian Over-mantel has been put back over the fireplace...and it looks simply amazing.

I'm just so happy!  Cold...but happy.

And strange and bizarre things seem to be brewing at DC this spring.  Following Convergence, will apparently come Divergence, wherein, the new 52 will be transmogrified into something...else.  I know not what.  But I am intrigued, nevertheless.

They are going to lose some of the Green Lantern books, and have regular Green Lantern and Green Lantern: Lost Army, whatever that may be, and apparently Sinestro is still going to be hanging around.

Batman and Robin is going to become Robin, Son of Batman, drawn AND written by Pat Gleason, so I will surely be picking that up.

There is going to be a Martian Manhunter book.  Finally!  Secret Six will continue, along with Gotham Academy.  Superman and Wonder Woman is going to be written by Pete Tomasi and drawn by Doug Mahnke, so I will finally have to pick that up as well.  The Finches continue to destroy Wonder Woman in her own book, so that will so stay off of my list.

But what really intrigues me, are some rather bizarre books...Bat-Mite, Prez and Section Eight.  Bat-Mite looks pretty silly, not sure about Prez, but I'm glad that it will exist, but the thought of Garth Ennis and John McCrea getting back together on Section Eight just fills me with joy.  Dog-Welder!  Bueno Excellente!  Oh, it will be horrifying and hilarious!

Over at Marvel, for some misbegotten reason, they have decided to resurrect Secret Wars.  It wasn't particularly great the first time, and it was seriously terrible the second time, and for some reason, I doubt that the third time is going to be the charm.  What does worry me, is what is it going to do for the few books that I happen to love, such as Hawkeye, Ms Marvel, Daredevil and Squirrel Girl?  Oh, and Loki.  They're weird, they're wacky, and I adore them.  Why can't I have nice things?

So, it's going to be...interesting to say the least.

Green Lantern #39

Oh Hal.

So...things are happening in the Universe, as they are wont to do, and the Guardians are in their little sanctum fretting about it.  It's What They Do.  And being the incompetent little jerks that they are, they immediately decide to send for Hal, whom, as you recall from the last issue...they sent off to Earth for a bit of enforced R&R.  He had saved the Universe, but he didn't do it in quite the way that they had ordered him to do it...so he had to be punished, by having a beer with Guy and Barry.

Or something.

But now he's back in Spaaaaace, doing his thing, and actually patrolling 2813 and taking on smugglers or whomever.  It's actually what Green Lanterns are SUPPOSED to do, and it's rather nice to see them doing their jobs for a change.  The only fly in the ointment is that most of the planets in the sectors are still pretty leery of the Lanterns, and who really can blame them, especially after the stunts pulled by the Old Guardians.

Meanwhile back on Mogo, there is a certain amount of discontent amongst the Lanterns themselves, feeling a bit surly because nobody loves them anymore.  Vath, who has lately been turning into a real jerk is yelling at Muk Muk, who is simply adorable. Fortunately. Kilowog is there to break up the fight, because Kilowog was, and always remains...totally Awesome.  Then Kilowog goes to see Hal, who is catching up on paperwork.  Kilowog tells Hal that although they saved the Universe...again...things are still a bit iffy.  The Lanterns are crabby and feeling unappreciated, and everyone hates them.  And Hal has to go and see the Guardians, and is feeling a bit truculent about it after the last tongue lashing he received.

So imagine his surprise when they are simply just gushing over how completely fabulous he is.  Hal is being a bit snotty, and really, who can blame him?  The Guardians are shocked...SHOCKED, that he would consider them to be jerks like the old Guardians before them, and that although he doesn't take orders very well, and does whatever the hell he likes, and so on and so forth...they are still just so mesmerized by the incredible beauty of his hair and behind... that they just can't stay mad at him, and he is still the most fabulous Green Lantern of them All.

Heck, the little female Guardian even takes his face in her tiny blue hands and gazes lovingly into his big brown eyes.  It's a little...weird.  They ask Hal if he can Save The Corps Good Name, and Hal just tears up and goes all woobly.

Awwww...!

Finally, Hal goes off to his locker and communes for a while with his leather bomber jacket.  And then presumes to finally go off and kick butt and do crazy things, because He is the Greatest Lantern of them All!

This is all a little bit ridiculous, and yet...God help me...I couldn't help enjoying it because it WAS just so ridiculous.  How the hell that Hal always manages to come out smelling like a Rose, no matter what he does...constantly amazes me. But it is his greatest strength I suppose...after his insanely well tone butt, and I can't blame the writers for being seduced by him.

Heh.

Reviews!

Another Wednesday, another bout of comics.  And it is snowing.  Again.

Antman #2

I really do like this book.  Scott is so...hapless, but loveable.

He gave up his dream job with Stark in order to go to Florida so that he can be near his daughter, and is currently living in a doll house.  That just...cracks me up.  He goes to a bank to try and get a small business loan, for his own Security Company, and to prove it to the Bank, he proceeds to show them how terrible their security is.

Naturally, mayhem ensues.  Fortunately, the head of the Bank is a no-nonsense and rather fabulous older woman named Mrs. Morgenstern, and she give him a chance, especially when it turns out that there is a Nazi robot asleep in the vault.

He is also being chased by the Grizzly, who wants revenge against Ant-Man for putting him in jail, except it was a different Ant-Man, and it all ends rather bizzarely...but sweetly.  This book is a hoot.

Batman '66 #19

Well this go, we have none other than Professor Marmaduke Ffogg!  And his British minions of evil Schoolgirls, and Lady Penelope Peasoup.  It lets Bruce and Dick dress up in top hats and caped great coats, as they run around the oldest part of Gotham, and fight the aforesaid villain, who is planning on taking over the city by releasin...fog.

Of course he is!

It's adorable.  And silly.  And loads of fun.

Green Lantern #39

Oh...Hal.

Saga #25

It's been a while, but things are still quite interesting.  Hazel, Alana, Klara and Izabel have been kidnapped by  poor crazed Dengo, who has kidnapped Prince IV's baby boy and plans a terrible vengeance aginast the Robot kingdom.  We also get a lovely recap of how the whole stupid war started and esclated.  Meanwhile, Marko and Prince Robot are still on the trail of the aforesaid kidnapper,  but not having a lot of luck catching up, and tempers are beginning to fray.

Meanwhile, Gwendolyn and the Will's sister are doing..things, and Lying Cat is still there, and a dragon pees on them.

I'm not kidding.

Oh...it is lovely.  So very very lovely.

Angela: Asgard's Assasin #3

One would think from the title, that she was an Assasin working FOR Asgard, but I really don't think that's the case, since she has run off with her baby sister for some reason. Naturally she has a host of really angry Asgardians on her tail, led by Thor and Loki, who at this point hasn't confessed to his own murder yet.

It's...complicated.

Meanwhile, Angela and Sera are in Vanaheim, looking for..something, and fight off some dark elves, and we get a bit of a clue about their relationship. I do have to admit to liking Sera so far,and wonder of wonders...I love the way that she is drawn, she's short and a little plump and has an aquiline nose...as opposed to looking like Every Single Other Woman In Comics!  It's great!

So, they find Heimdall's former fiancee's wedding dress, which for some reason shields them from Heimdall's gaze.  Go figure. And then they meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

I still find this to be a little odd, but it is is Kieran Gillen, and he's never let me down yet.  Plus it's...quirky.  I seem to be liking quirky.

Hawkeye #21

Well!  It's been quite a while!  And things are still going to hell in a handbasket.

Clint does manage to go to Jessica and apologize for being a complete jerk, and I do believe that she forgives him.  The Bros are still storming the palace...um...apartment building, and the residents have banded together to make it a tad more difficult than they had expected.

Bad...things happen on the roof.  Oh, Barney.

And Pizza Dog shows up!

It's all pretty fabulous of course, and I'm dying to see how it all ends.

Squirrel Girl #2

Oh God, this may be my new most favoritest book evar!  It's so...goddamned CUTE!  And silly.  And Fun. And absurd, but in a completely comic book sort of way.

Doreen goes to the campus meeting where everyone joins clubs and stuff and completely geeks out over the boy that she talked to for about 10 seconds in the first issue, while her roomie Nancy accompanies her, and snarks a lot.  This cast of characters is amazing.  The art is adorable and insanely expressive.  It has...Squirrels!

And Galactus. Who is coming to earth, and has managed to fool everyone into thinking that his ship is simply another star, but he Can't Fool The Squirrels! And they're everywhere!  So, she has to go and fight Galactus, but wants to do it on the Moon, so that they don't mess up Earth.  And goes and breaks into Stark industries so that she can borrow an Ironman suit, because she and Tony are tight, naturally.

The picture of an Ironman suit...with an armored tail, is one of my most treasured moments.

Buy this Book!

Not a huge week, but not a clunker in the bunch!

Ordering Take-Out

This has nothing to do with comics, but gosharootie, my beautiful beautiful new stove was just delivered.  Still not hooked up, and they are taking away my beloved old 1960 GE range, so I guess it is going to be pizza tonight!  Also my new dishwasher, and...as a little present for my Sweet Baboo...a kegerator for the new family room.

He's a little pissy it didn't arrive until AFTER the Super Bowl, but God willing, it will be up and foaming by the Daytona 500.

Not That I Am Gloating...

...But hey, the Patriots won the Super Bowl!   And in a rather spectacular fashion.

I must also confess that I fell asleep at the start of the fourth quarter, and therefore missed all of the excitement, only starting awake when my Sweet  Baboo started shrieking.  I feel so bad for all of the Seahawk fans, that has to really sting.

We are being hit again by more snow and sleet, and probably locusts.  I am staying home today.
